Events! Learning that is engaging outside the classroom! You would be surprised how many science events there are out there (some conveniently being free). We greatly encourage you to go to events like these because not only can they inspire you, but you can actually see how what you are learning in your lessons actually relates to real life. Here’s a handy list:
1) The Science Museum. An absolute classic for all science lovers or for the simply curious. This FREE museum in London has floors of different aspects of science for an area about space, human biology, maths and SO many other things. You can easily spend a whole day here and still fully have explored all of it. This is a must because there are areas dedicated to ALL the sciences, so there really is something for everyone.
2) The Natural History Museum. This museum is quite conveniently only a few minutes away from the science museum and once again, FREE! This place is perfect if you love all things nature. With different sections on land and earth mammals accompanied by absolutely beautiful architecture, this is NOT one to miss.
3) Royal Observatory. In Greenwich, you can sit back and relax at the royal observatory and watch a short film about various topics related to space and the cosmos. And if that wasn’t cool enough, there is also a museum that goes into further detail into all things space. If you go outside, you also get a beautiful view of the London skyline, so that’s a definite bonus!
4) New Scientist Live! This is an event has happened nearer to end of the year and it is essentially a massive pot of all things science that you can actually interact with. Events include talks by people that are well known in their fields from genetics to black holes. Hands-on entertainment like dancing robots and virtual reality games. There really is something for everyone but make sure you secure those tickets; this is a popular event!
5) Ada Lovelace Day Live! This is an amazing event with the aims of showcasing all the amazing women in STEM across the world and the great work they are doing in their fields. This is an evening of inspiration, and one that is sure to give you ideas as to how you're studies can actually be applied to the real world.
Make sure you make an effort to go to these events, they really will benefit you.
