I can’t be bothered to revise

So exam season has finally hit. And you’re already sick of it all. The exams have barely started and you already want them to end. The sight of one more revision guide, notebook or piece of stationery is going to drive you insane. You have just had IT and unfortunately you’re wondering to yourself how you’re going to get out of this rut. Of course, BLOSSOM is here to help…

1) Take a break and do absolutely nothing. Sometimes when we can’t be bothered to revise it’s because our brain is just screaming for us to take a break. It’s like no matter how hard we try to focus when we’re revising, we just can’t seem to concentrate. This is where you have to listen to your brain; the mind is a powerful thing. And what your mind is telling you is to take a good long break. Don’t force anything, sometimes a break is all you might need so that your brain can feel refreshed. Do something that has absolutely no correlation to your exams, preferably something active and social.

2) Actually note down everything that you have to do. Don’t miss anything out. Sometimes we don’t want to revise because we are so overwhelmed with the amount of things that we have to do. So instead of attacking all these things that we have to do, we just freeze and do none of those things. Kind of like metaphorically hiding a mess in a drawer and telling yourself that if it’s out of sight then it’s out of mind. The thing is though with revision is that they’ll be a point closer to exams when it’ll be at the forefront of your mind whether you want to or not. So how do you deal with it? By running straight at your to do list! Write out everything and don’t miss a thing and more often than not you’ll be surprised to find that you might have less to do than you thought after you’ve systematically written each task down and allocated time for each of these tasks.

3) Ask yourself whether you’ve possibly burnt out. Sometimes we don’t want to revise because we’ve actually revised too much. Our bodies and brains just can’t handle it anymore because we may have unknowingly (or knowingly) pushed them to their breaking points. This simply brings us back to point one. You are simply going to have to take a break. Pushing yourself through burn out has dire consequences which could actually leave you with lower exam results. Working longer doesn’t equal getting better exam results.

4) Ask yourself whether you’re stressed. If you’re stressed, exams and revision may seem like a paralysing thought to you, so you just don’t partake in them or anything that may even have the hint of being associated with them. This is similar issue to the first three points and can be attacked likewise.

5) Remind yourself that although right now this may seem like no consolation, these exams are a miniscule part of the grand scheme that is your life. If you haven’t already gathered from this article, we are essentially telling you to take a break. One day might be all that is needed. But you need to remember to take breaks because yes your exams are important but your health, mental and physical is more important.

In conclusion, even though it may seem counterintuitive – TAKE A BREAK.
